Yesterday, The Good Lobby, alongside Transparency International EU, Corporate Europe Observatory, and LobbyControl, submitted a formal complaint to the Executive Director of the European Chemicals Agency (ECHA), Dr Sharon McGuinness. The complaint raises serious concerns about ECHA’s ongoing contractual relationship with consultancy firm Ramboll.

Ramboll, while advising ECHA on matters related to per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances (PFAS), has also provided strategic support to corporate clients—including chemical and plastics industry players—on the very same regulatory issues. This dual role raises significant conflict-of-interest concerns, particularly as Ramboll’s input may have influenced draft EU restrictions on PFAS, often referred to as ‘forever chemicals’.

The signatories are calling for transparency and accountability by asking ECHA to explain why it has deemed its contracts with Ramboll conflict-free and to urgently review all existing agreements with the company.
