The formula for influence in Brussels has shifted. Public interest advocates have to navigate closed-doors, hostile debates, disinformation, new opposition forces and ad-hoc decision-making. How can civil society operate in this environment? This webinar offers tactical advice to maintain impact in uncertain times. A mix of new tactics and existing mechanisms can help  civil society, including academics, to improve their chance of success. Various advocacy avenues exist across a spectrum of direct and indirect tactics. This discussion will highlight means of formal democratic participation that can still be used to influence the EU institutions and hold them accountable. Such mechanisms include access to documents requests, filing complaints with the European Ombudsperson or parliamentary petitions, and European Citizens’ Initiatives.Tactical diversity means combining these technical and formal mechanisms with additional informal approaches based on strategic awareness and choices depending on each policy issue. Civil society remains an essential part of the politics and processes at EU level. This webinar aims to show how.
