“To be watchful, alert, and on guard are essential attributes of citizenship […]. Vigilance first of all means monitoring: permanent close scrutiny of the actions of government”.

Pierre Rosanvallon

The European Union is dismantling decades of hard-won rules under the banner of ‘simplification’. The speed, scale, and opacity of this deregulatory wave make it nearly impossible for civil society to track what is being lost, let alone fight back.
The Deregulation Monitor is The Good Lobby’s rapid-response initiative to change that. It provides independent legal analysis, strategic intelligence, and coordination support to help NGOs, advocates, and researchers navigate an increasingly complex legislative landscape.
Beyond analysis, the Monitor acts: through research, briefings, convenings, and public interest litigation, it equips civil society with the tools to scrutinise, challenge, and influence EU policymaking, ensuring transparency and accountability are not casualties of the deregulatory agenda as it entrenches itself into day-to-day decision-making.
